“Mistakes of Brilliance” - Malmö Latinskola

Classical music students from Malmö Latinskolan have made a recording of a new composition of mine written for flute, clarinet and prepared piano during the spring.

This was a blast for me to write.💥 Extremely intense composition-period - two weeks from first sketch to finished sheet music. It is a short trio-piece. The idea behind the piece came after talking with a friend about the nature of performance. Of how the fear of making mistakes sometimes cripples you, and sometimes when you have made a mistake in a perfomance you afterwards can relax on stage since the “worst” thing has already has happend. So with this idea I wrote this piece. The musicians get to improvise, use clusters, use extended techniques, stomp in the ground and prepare the piano with magnets on specific places so it makes this terrible and beautiful percussive sound and play out of sync on demand of the composer… hehe… and all of this in 4 min 30 sec.

Here you can listen to the piece named “Mistakes of Brilliance” performed by Majken Holmström, flöjt; Markus Cederholm, klarinett & Maleker Lexén, piano.

Enjoy!🙏🏼
